Philanthropy

Thank you for being a part of Real Men Wear Pink...

This is only the second annual Real Men Wear Pink philanthropy. We, the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho, appreciatte your contribution. I wanted to take a minute to tell you what you have become a part of. Your purchase has set you apart as someone who cares, someone that will take a stand against breast cancer. You have aligned yourself with 65 different college campuses and countless people around the world that help support research and awareness for breast cancer.

70 cents out of every dollar we collect will go directly to Susan G. Komen for a Cure. If you would like to find out more about this worthy foundatation you can find out more about them on their website
www.Komen.org.

Delievery of your shirt should be between October 3rd through October 20th. When you recieve your Real Men Wear Pink or My Man Wears Pink t-shirt take care and wear it with a purpose. And don't forget that October 22nd is National Real Men Wear Pink day. Wear your shirt that day to work, around campus, and whatever you find yourself that day. I hope that you will find enjoyment and pride in supporting this casue. And from all the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho thank you for your support.

Real Men Wear Pink 2007

October of every year is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. This year our chapter decided to make, October mean a little more than it has in years gone by. We decided to organize a philanthropy event to raise money and awareness for this worthwhile cause. The idea was simple from the beginning, make t-shirts, sell them and contribute all the proceeds to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. I conferred with the President of the Affiliate of the foundation here in Lexington, David Moore, and he got quite excited about the idea. After talking with David Moore, we marketed the t-shirts to the Greek community here at the University of Kentucky. The t-shirts for the guys said “Real Men Wear Pink” on the front, while the front of the girls shirt said “My Man Wears Pink”. We sold the t-shirts for $10.00 a piece, and were able to donate $2,763.00 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We sold 530 shirts, which we feel was not too bad for being our first year. After advertising in the Kentucky Kernel, a local school newspaper, on October 16, we had a campus wide day for everyone who bought a shirt to wear theirs to class, and later that day we gathered at a central location on campus to take a group photo, and to have a check presentation to David Moore. Some famous people from our campus came out to help bring notoriety to our cause. Susan West, Dean of Fraternal and Sorority Affairs here at the University, and our beloved mascot the Wildcat, who also wore the t-shirt during that weeks football game against the University of Florida. We hope to make this an annual event, and even next year to make it campus wide. If any other chapter would also like to participate next year, contact the Omicron Chapter and we can see if we can make this a national Philanthropy to help put Alpha Gamma Rho on the map.

Buck Off 2007

Our long time effort of raising money for the Agrability Foundation, otherwise known as “Buck-Off”, was again very successful for the fall 2007 campaign.  The Agrability Foundation is a Kentucky organization that works with disabled farmers and the like to adapt, not only their personal farming facilities, but also machinery to better suit their specific needs. Greek organizations on campus organize teams to compete in a mechanical bull riding and roping competition. We thank our Greek community for their long support of “Buck-Off”, as well as our listed sponsors for their many contributions:
